Derby told me they named the Kentucky Derby race after him ... oh really, I said ... and then Julep told me that the Mint Julep drink was named after her! So to celebrate Derby Day the westies decided to have a little race of their own ... so right after breakfast Derby & Julep survey the 'track' to make sure the running conditions are perfect.
Warming up and doing stretches are very important.
And ... right out of the gate Julep takes the lead!
In close second is ... Derby with all four paws off the ground.
... Run Derby Run ...
... Run Derby Run ...
Derby barks that Julep cheated & demands another race!
Derby makes a cool down trot around the track.
In the family box seats waiting for the Kentucky Derby to start.
Julep didn't want to wear a hat.
Studying the horses and jockeys.
Both in agreement this is one big and beautiful horse.
The stress of the race Derby had to look away for a second.
Derby keeping his paws crossed for 'his horse' to win.
Julep was so excited she started barking 'barks of encouragement' to the horses.
I'm not sure what I enjoyed the most - watching the race or watching the westies watch the race!
