Mega-yacht Gene Machine Docks in St. Michaels

 Still a little warm outside to take the westies to dinner
 last night ... they stayed home.
 We met Laura & Cary at the St. Michaels Harbour Inn &
Marina for dinner.  While we were there the
super-yacht Gene Machine came cruising in.
 The Gene Machine is a Westport 130 and she is the
33rd super yacht of this type to have been built by Westport.
In case you're wondering just how far this yachts cruising range
 is - it's 3,000 nautical miles.  She can sleep 10 in 5 staterooms
with additional room for 7 crew members.

 An the owner is:  Jonathan Rothberg
who is one smart cookie in my book.
He was on the cover of 'Forbes' magazine for his
 development of the Personal Genome Machine or {PGM}
 which is a DNA decoder.  This machine which is desk-top
size could transform {for example} medicine.
Rothberg said doctors [in the future] will finger genetic
weak spots in tumors and treat cancer patients with
customized drugs - kids born with rare diseases
will get larger portions of their genome decoded to
pinpoint the cause eliminating guesswork and misdiagnoses.
{Google the Forbes article to learn more.}
 Cary watching the yacht come in.
I had no idea spotting this yacht would involve me
learning so much about the owner and what he created.
 We had to wonder what the symbols meant under the
name.  Wilson came up with the idea to search for the
Rothberg's company name and bingo he was spot on right.
 {See the photo below}

Not that we were invited on board for cocktails
but I did manage to find this picture of the
inside main sitting area.  Pretty impressive!
 Getting ready for docking.  One of my facebook
friends mentioned this yacht was just in Ocean City, MD.

  1. That is some big boat but we kind of like the dinky red rocket better. Glad you had a lovely evening. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  2. That "finger genetic weak spots in tumors and treat cancer patients with customized drugs" sound so great wish the advances could be made sooner.
    Thanks for being a friend

  3. That little red rocket is quite nice but that yacht is something else.

  4. 0 X SQUARE and + are the basic building block chemicals of DNA. Also the four test tubes of his machine. I'm still not sure what the other symbols are. Supposedly sequences or whatever are 3 letter words. But those symbols don't seem anything like letters. Maybe they have made their own alphabet meaning certain 2 letter or 3 letter words equals one of their symbols?
