Day 1 - Saturday, February 10
The smooth jazz party started before the ship left the
port of Ft. Lauderdale.
It was amazing how many repeat cruisers were on this
cruise. I met one lady who has 15 SJC's under her belt.
The pool deck was the place to be during the day. You never
knew who you might bump into there. At 4:00p.m. there
was a Smooth Jazz 15th Anniversary Sailaway Celebration
hosted by Marcus Miller and Boney James. Next year we
will be taking our long lens to get bette photo's.
That concert lasted one hour and they had the boat rockin'.
Right after that it was time to get ready for the main show
in the Celebrity Theater at 6:30. This was 2 hours of music
featuring Norman Brown and Richard Elliot. The last
scheduled event for this day started at 11:30p.m. but
we turned in early.
Day 2: Sunday, February 11
Every morning there was a smooth stretching class with
the Canyon Ranch Spa staff. We didn't make one class.
Since this was Sunday starting at 11a.m. there was a
Smooth Jazz Gospel show hosted by Kirk Whalum.
Everyone we talked to said don't miss this and we didn't.
Kirk did an awesome job playing smooth jazz while
giving a positive sermon. When that finished it
was time for lunch. At noon there was an autograph
session with most of the artists which we skipped.
2:00p.m. started the 15th annual T-shirt party featuring
Peter White who was introduced by Gerald Albright.
It was nice to relax by the pool and listen to music.
Peter White
I knew the names of all the artists scheduled to perform but
I didn't know what most looked like or even what their voices
sounded like - who would have guessed that Peter White is English.
T-shirts were left in our cabins as a gift from ECP.
Entertainment Cruise Productions {ECP} did an excellent
job in decorating the ship and not to mention all the
various stage locations for performances around the ship.
While we were allow to take photo's around the ship and
during the performances outside the main theater it was
prohibited to take photo's during the evening main stage
performances. I can understand because who would
want flashes going off in your eyes all the times.
The main performance for this evening was 1-1/2 hours
of music by Boney James - introduced by Kirk Whalum.
What we missed was the 4:00p.m. panel discussion
called 'Instruments Identified' which was Horns. This
was hosted by Candy Dulfer featuring Gerald Albright,
Richard Elliot, Euge Groove and Patches Stewart.
There was a lot we missed because we just couldn't be
in more than one place at a time! There were little mini-
concerts throughout the day and into the night with all
big-name artists.
sounds like this was a jazz lovers dream
