The Italian Pizza Quilt

I decided today was my day off ... no cleaning, no packing boxes,
no moving boxes, and no laundry.

I declared today as ... Italian Pizza Quilt Day
The colors in this quilt remind me of the Italian flag.
For those that don't know me Italian is my ultimate favorite
food [making me think I must have been Italian
in another life].  Sewing with these colors made me
wonder about the history of the Pizza Pie
Here is a small clip:
The pizza Margherita is topped with modest amounts of tomato sauce,
mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. It is widely attributed
to baker Raffaele Esposito, who worked at "Pizzeria di Pietro,"
established in 1880. Though recent research casts doubt on this legend,
the tale holds that, in 1889, he baked three different pizzas
for the visit of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy.
The Queen's favorite was a pizza evoking the colors of the
Italian flag — green (basil leaves), white (mozzarella), and red (tomatoes).
According to the tale, this combination was named Pizza Margherita in her honor.

I purchased this group of Batik's on sale for a very reasonable price.
This quilt does not have a home yet but I'm sure I'll find
someone between now and Christmas who would enjoy this.
... His Royal Cuteness Sir Derby ...
Not of Italian decent but of Scottish decent.
Included with the fabric was the 'Brick Wall' quilt pattern.
It looked simple and so I gave it a try.  I managed to get the
top pieced together in one afternoon.  I plan to make another
quilt using this pattern with all my leftover batik's.
Having today off is just what the doctor ordered so I can
hit the ground running first thing on Monday morning.
It's going to be another crazy busy week but the light
is at the end of the tunnel in just about 3-1/2 weeks!
.. .. ..
Wishing everyone great sniffs for the week ahead.
