Wilson and I did something we hardly ever do which is
to go out to lunch at a fine dining restaurant. We have been
wanting to try the new[ish] restaurant in Easton
called Bas Rouge. The hours are very limited:
Thursday and Friday for lunch & Friday and Saturday for a
pre-fixed dinner [& that's it!]. Prices are pricey and
unless you've got deep pockets this is what I would
consider a special restaurant for a once-in-a-while meal out.
Sorta like the Inn at Perry Cabin minus the waterfront.
Now we've been following Chef Harley Peet through
all of his various restaurant moves ... so we knew
what to expect from his style of cooking.
Let's Get Down To The Food
Wilson started with the Smoked Salmon appetizer
and we both ordered the prime burgers. The friends
we were lunching with had the Smoked Salmon
appetizer and the Daily Quiche. All was excellent.
Formal place settings and I have to say I loved
the long thin stems on the glassware.
Bas Rouge is what I would consider one of those little neighborhood
gems. Exquisite in design and impeccable in service
you can't get any better than this in Easton [or elsewhere].
Wilson and I love the fact that the burger was
made using prime meat. That is something you don't see
much in Talbot County and with a price tag of $23
it should be prime and nothing but prime!
The condiments ... perfect placed in tiny bowls.
No sharing - everyone received their own.
Just me!
The restaurant did fill up during lunch with only
two open tables and that was it.
Enjoying a cup of decaf with one of the house
made desserts.
Apple Crumb Cake
Would we go back? Yes, is the answer to that question.
I have to say I'm not crazy about a pre-fixed dinner menu
and I'm not crazy about a lot of items on the dinner
menu. For a once in a while dinning experience
I would not hesitate to go back.
Well it certainly looks good. I suppose depending on what they are serving, a pre fixed dinner menu could be a deciding factor on whether or not you want to eat there
