Last night after dinner I received an e-mail from my contact
at "The Child's Haven" basically saying they are planning
a soft opening in mid-May. This is for about a dozen teacher and kids
to try to get back into the swing of things. They are having little
luck finding masks and asked if I would be willing to make at
least a dozen. Of course [if you know me] I said yes.
The top photo is of the mask pattern I will be making for
them. I decided to photograph each step to share on the
blog. While the original pattern came from Donna of
Jordon Fabrics I did add a few more steps to make them
stronger as well as nicer looking.
Cut fabric 7" wide x 9" long.
You cut 2 - one for the front of the mask and one for
the back. I decided to use the same fabric for both.
Now to give the mask some shape and a place
for the nose you angle cut a little off of
all four sides of the mask as shown below.
Put right sides together and pin to hold in place.
Next ... over to the sewing machine to sew the seams
[on both sides of the mask]. This doesn't have to be perfect
and chain piecing goes quickly.
This is an added step I decided to take.
To neaten up the sides and take off a little bulk
I used my rotary cutter and cleaned up the side seams.
Julep is here to let me know it's dinner time
so I'll post the rest of my mask progress tomorrow.
Take care and be safe.
I would have been surprised if you hadn't said yes. This request was right up your alley. I look forward to seeing the rest of the steps.
