What's Blooming Around the Yard

Yesterday I finished sewing this together.
It's pressed, folded, binding made, and in a bag for the
next time Chris and I get together for a 'stuff made swap'.
Chris stopped over on Saturday afternoon to take everything
I made for Outreach and to drop off a few quilts so
I can apply the bindings for the ladies who want to hand
sew to the back of the quilt.  Basically, I sew the bindings
to the front and the ladies hand sew the bindings to the back.
She also gave me 200 [5" squares] for some I Spy quilt tops.
Julep
I've been praying and applying the "Liquid Fence" powder
[which repels rabies and deer] around my lily plants.
This particular lily is a monster plant this year.

My dad gave me this red maple tree years ago and
it's finally happy in this spot.
Wildflowers from last years seeds.
Dahlia
Golden Yarrow
The coneflowers are starting to open.
It may have been last year [or maybe the year before]
I bought two containers of Easter Lily plants at Lowes
for a $1.99 each.  It was an impulse purchase
thinking they probably wouldn't come back.
The plants are amazing and full of buds and
I personally can't wait to they open.
Osprey looking for an lunch.

Hollyhocks ... the package showed a picture of
double flowers that looked like a carnation.
This is what I got ... single flowers.

Wildflowers from last years seeds.

The wildflowers are in the front bed and are so tall they
are falling over so once the blooms are gone I will be
cutting them back.  A few weeks ago I tossed seeds from two different
varieties of zinna seeds in the same bed as the wildflowers.
To my surprise all the seeds are coming up so I've been slowly
thinning out the small plants.  I also planted a package of
Four O'clock seeds and all those are coming up as well.
I remember my parents having Four O'clocks as well as
Hollyhocks in the garden when I was growing up.
I love to putter in the garden just like my dad did.
Painted Japanese Fern
The Joe Pye weed is starting to get flower heads.
This plant attracts butterflies.
Bluebird on the Virburnum plant.
It's been so dry that I've been watering all my flower beds.
Our Gingko tree looks very happy this year.  Wilson and I
are still working to figure out how we want our new flower
beds in the fall.  We basically are forced by the community
to move our beds since they are passed our property line.
Funny thing is we never paid attention to the 'official' property
line since it matched both of our neighbors.  We will be
loosing a nice size chunk of what we thought was our lawn to
the "natural look" [meaning the lawn will grow back into
tall weeds].  We are not happy needless to say.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy week ahead.

  1. Your flowers are all so beautiful. What a treat it must be to walk through your yard. Too bad about losing part of what you though was your yard.
